Powerful green Virtual Email Protection Now Supports XEN

Why should customers who rather use software based on Open Source be forced to use proprietary systems to be able to get efficient email protection? They shouldn’t, says Halon Security, who now releases support for the XEN virtualization engine for it’s email protection software, Virtual Spam Prevention (VSP).

The market for virtualization is growing stronger by the day and one of the virtualization engines that are gaining ground is the Open Source based XEN, which among others are Red Hats virtualization engine of choice for it’s Red Hat Enterprise Linux operating system.

Halon Security is proud to announce the support for XEN in the Virtual Spam Prevention, VSP, product. VSP prevously ran exklusive on VmWare virtualization engines.

- VSP stands for Virtual Spam Prevention, that’s exactly what it is: it runs in a virtual server environment and stops spam, viruses and malware from entering the company email system and the mailboxes of the users where it can do lot of damage and waste valuable resources, says Peter Falck, President of Halon Security in Gothenburg, Sweden.

With a Halon VSP, an organization can lower costs and email server utilization normally caused by dealing with spam, malware and viruses that enter the network via email in a simple and cost effective way. Halon VSP can handle up to 10 000 email domains and up to 100 000 users per server and is easy to install and deploy in an already existing virtualized environment.

VSP is based on exactly the same code and algorithms as Halons leading email protection appliance, Spam Prevention Gateway (SPG). Halon is currently also performing tests to run VSP in Microsofts Hyper-V virtualization engine.

VSP is a product that fits nicely into Halon Securitys Green Security initiative that the company launched during the fall this year. Other Halon Security products designed to lower environmental impact are powerful firewall appliances such as the SX-60 that require very low power, under 15 watts, without sacrificing features or performance.

- It’s harder to create high performance security products, but it’s definitely worth the effort, says Peter Falck, CEO of Halon Security, who thinks the competition is far behind in terms of energy efficiency

- Building a secure and fast firewall is easy when you have lots of power to burn. What we have created is so far ahead of anything else on the market and with the VSP and our range of firewalls, we definitely raised the bar for everyone else.
